Onkai Isshi Mimibukuro: 18. O-Bon Patlıcanı / 18. O-Bon Eggplant

<Koç'un Tefekkürü>

English:

A story from when I was a grade school student.

There were countless warts on both of my hands. I could crush them, and I kept crushing them again and again. I consulted a doctor and the liquid nitrogen they prescribed wasn't having any effect, but I kept going there one day a week. Nevertheless, my time as a grade school student wasn't good, but when I became a junior high student I started to be bothered by my appearance so before I knew it, those warts became a big trouble.

In the summer of one year, my grandma suddenly said this: I could scrub the warts with an O-bon eggplant, then bury it in a field where nobody would see it, and surely I would be cured. I felt like I was grasping for straws so I had no questions about my grandma's words, so once O-bon begun I took an eggplant in my chopsticks and quickly scrubbed it onto both of my hands, then I secretly buried it beneath some saplings that fenced in the hidden field.

How much time passed after that? One day, when I had completely forgotten that I'd buried the eggplant, I suddenly noticed that the warts had cleared up when it wasn't on my mind. I still remember my grandma's smiling face, when I went to happily report it to her.

<Coach's Contemplation>
This story is more like a "magic spell" than a folk remedy, but I think it's a good story. To say such a thing... what kind of Coach am I to have that kind of "description" for these stories? It's unlikely to be asked, but certainly, even in "Kouchuu" I wrote that it's a good story, so all in all I'm an irresponsible coach. More than being a spooky story, your scariness and mysteriousness were expressed well. So in these circumstances, the coach's description is trivial. Besides, Isshi, I think that if the readers read all of this book, they'll understand what kind of people the two of us are.

Onkai Isshi Mimibukuro: 17. Gergedan Böceği / 17. Rhinoceros Beetle

Ka-chan bir süre bakındı ve böceği gördüğü an aniden "Gyaa!" diye çığlık atıp geriye düştü.
"Ne? Nedir o?" diye sordum yine.

<Koçun Şüpheciliği>
...Hmmm.

English:

Rhinoceros Beetle

A story from when I was a grade school student.

During summer break, I went to the riverside in the woods with my friend Ka-chan, to catch rhinoceros beetles and stag beetles. It seemed that rural areas were buzzing with so many of these insects, but in reality there weren't any at all. Two of us walked around, searching here and there, but while there were cicadas and scarabs, we didn't find any of the ones we had intended to.

After we couldn't search any longer, we went home. Two of us discussed it with our teachers, and discovered that insects swarm around a particularly fat tree. All right!! Surely, there'd be one or two rhinoceros beetles inside of it!! When we went to see, there were so many kinds of insects we couldn't count, around the sap seeping out from the tree. We still had a bad feeling about it... even so, we patiently searched to see if we wouldn't find a rhinoceros beetle or stag beetle in there. Somehow, we noticed one small creature mingling with the strange things.

"Hey? Ka-chan, what's this bug?" I asked.
Ka-chan stared for a little while, and when he saw that bug he suddenly let out a scream of "Gyaa!!" and stumbled backward.
"What? What is it?!" I asked him again, and Ka-chan was quivering as he said "Look at it closely! That rhinoceros beetle, it has no head!!"
'What is he talking about?' I thought, as I looked, and there was a strange liquid oozing out from the base of its neck as it moved its six legs around in the sap.

The insect stopped moving soon after, but that image is burned into my mind and will never leave...

<Coach's Skepticism>
...Hmmm. Surely since you had a bad feeling about it, you thought it was scary, but isn't it different from the scariness of a ghost story? ...Well, if Isshi thinks that it's scary, then that's the essence of Isshi's ghost story. Personally, I like the part "there was a strange liquid oozing out". However... this scariness is a little cunning!!

Onkai Isshi Mimibukuro: 16. Doldurulmuş Hayvan / 16. Stuffed Animal

<Koçun Tutkusu>
Bu harika bir deneyim Isshi... Aslında bence bu da harika bir hikaye. Yazış stilin ve sen-varilik harika yansıtılmış. Bu yüzden incelemesi biraz zor.

English:

Stuffed Animal

A relative's story.

Our household were farmers for many generations but in their spare time they also did some hunting. They ate the meat of the animals they hunted in the mountains, and stuffed the skin that was left behind.

One day, I went to stay and hang out with an older male cousin. During the day we played catch ball and hide-and-seek, and after dinner we took a bath and laid out the futon as it was time to go to sleep.
"Hey? Want me to show you something cool?" my cousin said.
"Yes. I wanna see!!" I replied immediately, and he said "Well, wait a little longer," and we crept into the futons and chatted idly.

"Has one hour passed yet?" my cousin asked. I said "Is it time now?" as he lead me out of the room. We secretly left through the back door and headed to the detached room.
"Hey, what is this?" I asked, lowering my voice.
"Shh, be quiet..."
Whether or not he heard me, he gazed into my eyes. I looked deep into those eyes and strained my ears, and from that room there was some kind of noisy squealing sound.
"...What's this noise?" I asked timidly.
My cousin replied, "In that room there are many stuffed animals, and when night falls they start howling!"
"How?"
"Shall we go inside?" my cousin offered, with a mischievous smiling face, but it was too scary, and I ran away from that place alone. I slipped into our grandma's futon as I was, and fell asleep shivering.

More than 20 years have passed since then, and though I've met with my older cousin, it isn't possible to talk about it.

<Coach's Passion>
That's a great experience, Isshi... Actually, I think it's a good story too. The writing style and the you-ness are portrayed well, so it's difficult to revise it.

Onkai Isshi Mimibukuro: 15. Başucunda / 15. At The Bedside

Başucunda

Büyük abimin bir hikayesi. (Senpai*)

<Koç'un Disiplini>
...Her şeyden önce, başlık aykırı Isshi.

English:

At The Bedside

A story of my older brother (senpai).

A few years ago, my older brother broke up with the girlfriend he was seeing at the time, but it seemed that it wasn't a peaceful breakup and he was anxious about it.

One night, when he was about to go to sleep, he suddenly felt someone's gaze.
...Hm? ...what?... He had a bad feeling about it.
He timidly opened his eyes, and standing at the bedside was a middle-aged man glaring with his arms folded.
Who? He recognized him... Surely...
It was his ex-girlfriend's father. He had only ever seen him in pictures, but he memorized them well. Suddenly he got up, his heart throbbing violently.

'Come to think of it, her father had died several years ago, hadn't he...' He'd told me. Thinking of that, the next day hmy older brother went to visit his ex-girlfriend's father's grave.

When we arrived at what he told me was her father's grave the time I went together with him, we immediately cleaned it and put our hands together in prayer.
"We're terribly sorry. And we'll come again."
At that time, the wooden tablets around the grave had been loosened up and strewn about out of order.
"Huh? Is there a stray dog or cat here too?" my older brother said, and when he looked behind the gravestone his eyes fell on the date of death. There had been inscribed the same day a few years ago.

<Coach's Discipline>
...First of all, the title is interfering, Isshi. Because this isn't a story of sleeping or inside a dream, right? And so, if it occurs in this world when people read "standing at the bedside" in the story, they don't get "at the bedside where one dreams" like the title. But since there's a limit on corrections and revisions, if you left it as it is, what happened after the father appeared folding his arms and glaring? I think that surely he didn't just disappear because your friend's heart was beating violently... But the strangeness that is shown isn't accurately tidied up.

Onkai Isshi Mimibukuro: 14. Geri Dönüş / 14. Returning

<Koçun Eğlencesi>
Isshi...

English:

Returning

A story of a miraculous coincidence.

R-san is a collector of sneakers. He turns 35 this year, but from the time he was a teenager he has been collecting sneakers which are commonly called 'rare goods'. Originally born in Shikoku, just as he graduated high school he held that ambition and moved to the capital, but he couldn't live off only the allowance from his parents and the earnings from his part-time job, so he became restless and had to sell his sneakers to live.

Once he needed quite a large sum of money, and sold his rare sneakers from a maker that was tremendously popular at that time, but R-san had purchased those goods and had an extraordinary emotional attachment to them. He couldn't get rid of the problem without making a sacrifice, and resolutely sold the sneakers. At once time he'd buy them back again, so he drew a mark he would never forget on the other side of the insoles and only then did he bring them to the merchant.

After that, standing at the counter, those sneakers were on his mind as he was facing the merchant. At that time the sneakers were at the peak of their popularity, so regardless of the value of the sneakers that even nowadays would be unimaginable, he had to sell them immediately. After all, they would never return to him.

Then, about ten years later. R-san's dream came true, he returned to his hometown to help out with the family business.

Once, when he suddenly found himself peeking at an online auction, he came across a pair of sneakers of the same size and type as the ones he parted with that day. The price was reasonable, so he instantly bought them. When he unpacked them from the parcel they arrived in, he seemed to handle them carefully, for they were as lovely as an antique, and he didn't think much of the dirtiness or the wrinkles. As soon as he put one foot inside, he remembered the mark he drew ten years before.

Could it be? he thought, and when he folded down the insole, it had become very faint but there was no doubt at all, there was the mark he had made. Indeed, ten years had passed and those sneakers had come back to their original owner.

"No way~ This is the most miraculous thing in the world!" R-san said as he delightfully showed those sneakers to me.

<Coach's Joy>
Isshi... Although you wrote 'R-san' it's strange but, this could possibly be about you. Or me... Because you and I are otaku collectors, you understand these feelings right? It's like, a person with the soul of a passionate collector sometimes meets with a lot of strange coincidences. It's as if the heartless things have a wish to want to meet with us by chance... I've also encountered a stuffed animal of the youkai "Kudan" after thirty years passed...
And you met me...

Onkai Isshi Mimibukuro: 13. Lanetlenmiş Bir Şarkı / 13. A Cursed Song

<Koç'un Çıkardığı Sonuç>
On üçüncü hikayede, benim tanıdığım Isshi, nihayet konuşmada kendini gösteriyor.

English:

There's an older friend whom I haven't been able to contact in a long time. Has it already been around 10 years?

That person and I, we were living in the same neighbourhood then, and since we had very similar hobbies and ideas, when night fell we would often go to various haunted places in his car. On one night, that friend brought me along to a damn in the mountain recesses of Saitama.

Along the way he said,
"Come to think of it, there's a cursed song. Did you know?"
"A cursed song? What kind of song is it?"
"Well it seems like a ballad but it's an unbelievably good song. Nobody could copy it."
"Ey~ That's really cool! I wanna hear it too!!"
"Right? Actually, I might be able to get the tape with that song from the person who has it now. And then I'll get you to listen to it."
"Yeah!! I'm really looking forward to it!!"
While we were having that conversation we were heading toward the dam I mentioned, and as usual he stopped the car and we started walking around in the area. The whole time, even as we took the path back, we were telling ghost stories to each other.

A few days after that, I received a phonecall from that friend.
"Oi!! I finally got that tape!! Can you come to my place later and listen to it?"
My friend speaking quickly in his excitement and getting me wound up, but that day I had to do a rehearsal.
"I'm sorry, but I've got rehearsal today. Ah, but I want to listen to it, so when rehearsal is over I'll call you!!"
So, excusing myself from my friend's invitation, I started getting ready to go to the studio.

Was it around 11 o'clock at night? As soon as our rehearsal was over I called that friend, but I only got a ring tone and he didn't answer the phone.
"Has he gone to bed?" I thought, but I tried calling again after that but there was still no answer.
"Ahh, he'll see the call and tomorrow he'll call me back I guess."
And so I waited for his return call.

However, the next day and even the day after that, there was no return call from my friend. And when I called again there was still no answer.
"Did something happen?"
When I was starting to get anxious, a call came from my friend's band member.
"Hey? Do you know where he went? He hasn't come to rehearsal and even when I called his home, his mother answered and said she hasn't seen him since a few days before. Well, have you heard anything?"
A few days before, was after my call...
However, according to what I knew it was just about that song, and even if I told him there was no way he'd believe such a thing.
"Nope, I've tried calling several times as well, but he hasn't answered! If I get hold of him, I'll tell you."
That said, we hung up the phone.
But after that, even until now, I haven't contacted him.

I've heard talk that my friend's band broke up a little while after that, as the other members weren't able to make contact with him. Whatever happened to my older friend remains a mystery.

<Coach's Deductions>
In the 13th story, the Isshi I know finally shows up in conversation. Well, to put it bluntly, I really want to know the name of this song. But apart from that, in this story there are two "core points" left behind, that it seems you intentionally left out, Isshi.

First of all, it has to do with the word "cursed" that you introduced in this story. What the heck happened that you're calling it "cursed?" It's easy to fixate on "death" or "gone missing" but if that's the case then what became of the person who gave the tape to your friend? Did he just obtain it, and without even listening to it, hand it over to your friend who then disappeared? That kind of mystery is left behind. To make this point clearer (?) we can actually compare it to the founder of the Japanese Horror craze. I'm thinking of the big hit movie "Ring." From "cursed song" to "cursed video." You asked "What kind of song is it?" but this is probably a remark to conceal a point. Maybe you really said "What happens when you listen to it?" Why? Because without listening to it, the "curse" doesn't come true. It's like the significance of "if you watch it, you will die" in the movie "Ring", but lacking... no, being concealed.

And the other thing is the song title. I've usually heard that it's more common to hide that, but I want to write a common reason. Although this is a story in the age of tapes, and furthermore it's about a "cursed song," it's likely that the person, or band, who made this song itself has a copy of it at the time I'm writing this. Nevertheless, I think we have to consider the point that it can easily be listened to, even in the present time. So you hide the name, so you don't trouble anyone with the story... You wrote without feeling it... It's strange that this raises a question from the start, "Who made that song?"

In your 11th story you used symbols in place of the temple name and that was fine, but for a story you can't fill it up with all symbols, since you'll have to consider the likelihood that it will leak. Of course, we're treating all of these stories seriously. But... your own nature, Isshi... or even more than that, as a musician who likes ghost stories, I think it's a little unnatural that you wouldn't show even a little interest in the creator of a "cursed song" (and the title).

In this story, the timing of obtaining the song and then going missing, is strangely synchronized... it works as a ghost story. If you're not involved in the talk, it's just like an urban legend. No, it's still a mystery...  isn't it, Isshi? Ah, I just noticed that my word count is too high.

Onkai Isshi Mimibukuro: 12. Kedi / 12. Cat

12. Kedi

Kedi, her nasılsa, odamda özgürce koşuyordu.

<Koçun Uzlaşması>

English:

A story of my cat.

I like it when cats play and chase things, but lately the cats in my house are playing with things that I can't see with my own eyes. One day, my cat was playing with a small ball as usual and she swallowed it by accident, so ever since then all of their small toys have been put away. But, several nights later, when I went into my room, the cat was running around like she was chasing something...
"What? Your toys are all put away, so is it a bug?" I thought, looking carefully, but I couldn't see anything at all...

There was nothing. Absolutely nothing.

The cat, however, was running freely around my room. When I watched her for a little while, the cat behaved like she'd finally caught something, and just like that put it in her mouth and started gnawing on it.
"What are you eating?!" I immediately rushed over to her and forced open her mouth but there was nothing inside.

It's still mysterious behaviour but ever since then the cats in my house have all been playing with that "something"...

<Coach's Agreement>
Well then, I don't understand cats very well but I have the feeling they're creatures who can play alone. Isshi, because you have an observant eye from living with five cats(To those who are first becoming acquainted with Isshi, he also has five dogs, for a total of ten pets) you surely must have seen some especially unusual incidents... In this case the strangeness is in the description (or should I say, catscription) of her picking something in her mouth and starting to chew it, when it was just barely safe.

Onkai Isshi Mimibukuro: 11. Rüya Bilgisi / 11. Dream Knowledge

<Koçun İşareti>
Ikkun!

English:

A story of my father.

One day, late at night. I suddenly got a phonecall from my estranged father.
"...What the heck, at this hour..."
"It's just, Buddha appeared to me in a dream, and he told me to go to the Temple!"
While my head was disordered because I hadn't fully woken up, I said, "Is that the temple in Kanagawa?"
Surely I recognized the name because a relative of ours was living nearby, but neither I or my father had gone there.
"I'm somewhat anxious about it..."
"It's probably a coincidence, so even if you don't pay mind to it it'll be okay. Well then, goodnight..."

Two or three days after that phonecall, my family certainly did go to that temple. Indeed, misfortune had befallen that relative's house. Ever since then, I became frightened of getting a phonecall from my father...

<Coach's Nod>
Ikkun! You can't do that. Since it's a story concerned with another person's misfortune it's a little hard to comment... However, if we continue on from when you woke up, you were basically indifferent weren't you? And you could probably turn the "dream knowledge" you expressed in the title into "Prophetic Dream" right?

Onkai Isshi Mimibukuro: 10. Runner~ / 10. Runner~

10. Runner~

<Koç'un Tercihi>
.................

English:

A musician friend's story.
It happened in an apartment he was living in a long time ago.

Having just moved to Tokyo, as prosperous as he was, he was renting out a one room home. Although it was called a 'Mansion' the structure was more like an apartment, and since he was barely lucky enough to have a small bathtub in a 6-mat* Japanese style room, the walls were of course thin.

One day, he was drinking with us.
"Well! The guys next to me are so loud~! They sing around 3 at night, and I've gotta wake up to that even though I'm tired from working...!" he complained.
And I replied, "Hmm. But I think it can't be helped? Maybe your neighbour hopes to be a musician too, right? And since you play guitar, aren't you equals?"
He gulped down some beer and said "But always the same time, and always the same song? It's getting terrible...!"
"Is that so? Well, what if you go complain to him once?"
When I said that he replied, "I'll do that! I just can't tolerate it!!"
Then he emptied his beer can without any more resentment.

After several days I got a phone call from that guy, but the situation was somewhat strange...
"Well, well, I went to talk to the neighbour!! And, nobody was there!!"
At first I didn't fully understand what he was saying.
"Hm~? What are you talking about?"
His voice raised a level in excitement. "So!! It's about the singing neighbour I told you about a while ago!! He wasn't there!!"
I recalled the talk itself, but I wasn't grasping the situation well.
"Hm? Was he not home? I mean, surely he has a job, so it's not that he'd be home all the time right?" I responded carelessly, and he got angry.
"It's not that!! There was nobody next door!! Nobody is renting that room. I just have a bad feeling about this. That's it... I'm moving!!"
He was speaking quickly with a high-pitched voice, so it was difficult to listen, but anyhow, I understood the meaning.
"I see. Well then, it was a ghost! Isn't that interesting?! By the way, what song is he always singing?"
When I asked that, he waited for a little while and said,
"...'Runner'... It's 'Runner' by Bakufuu Slump."**
I couldn't help but laugh the instant I heard that, and I roared with laughter into the phone, but he put an end to my reaction by angrily crying a few words, "Cut - it - out!" in a large voice as he hung up the phone.

Did I make a mistake with my reaction?
Nevertheless, I'm happy that our friendship continues to this day.

<Coach's Preference>
.........
Isshi, this is absolutely picturesque. When you were drinking in the beginning, did you hear the guy singing Runner? Ahh, that is a promise that could make this composition come to life, which you didn't particularly touch on. Well, this story is like a general conversation with you, and since your personality is very prominent you made use of that as much as possible. Or rather, I should say, this writing!! For me, half of this... is a promise that it could unwillingly come to life (the rest is omitted). As usual, you had a conversation almost without eagerness, didn't you... But when you're with me, there's a huge difference... Ahh, since that is your work, what was omitted could make it come to life. However, the conversation is helped by the strange and directly connected title. The "~" at the end of the word displays an odd charm. And because of that, I can feel nothing but eagerness in your natural conversation.

Incidentally, this just my own rule, but you were definitely mistaken in your reaction Isshi!! You should've instantly went to hear this strange "Runner"!! Ahh, but if this is a "myth" then I think it's necessary to make it come to life, because it's linked to ghost stories and monsters (chimera), and I want to go there.

Onkai Isshi Mimibukuro: 09. Eden / 09. Eden

09. Eden

<Koç'un Talimatı>

English:

A story of my male cousin.
My cousin, living in Hayama in the Kanagawa Prefecture, had a strange personal experience when he was young.

On his way home from the primary school, he usually walked straight up the mountain trail alone. His house was built on land cleared out of a slightly elevated mountain, so the route zigzagged many times, but the quickest way was to take a straight path from the bottom to the top.

Although in the summer days were long, it got dark around evening all the same. It was even darker up in the mountains. He ascended while looking down at the ground, but when he suddenly glanced upward on a whim, there was a vast field extending outward before his eyes... He was astonished at seeing this spectacle for the first time, and for a while stood there with his hands on his hips and not moving. But somehow or other he felt like he wasn't able to move forward on his own and hurried back down to the original path to return by the school route.

As soon as he got home, he told his mother about the field he had seen some time ago, but she wasn't really paying attention. Anyway, one would expect that up in the mountains there were no such fields, nor was there any level ground...

For a little while after that he commuted via the school route, but when the lingering enthusiasm awakened he tried taking the mountain path once more, although that spectacle never did appear a second time.

Even now that more than twenty years have passed, that image is burned into his mind and will never be forgotten.

<Coach's Instruction>
It's a good story, Isshi. It gripped my heart.
This is a good chance for me to teach you one trick with scary stories. I think scary stories are like paintings that have been converted into words. In this case, I wouldn't say that he glanced upward "on a whim." Because it's a dark mountain path, I'm certain that he looked up when he came to a world where light was overflowing all at once. This situation paints such a picture. The change from darkness to light, from narrow to spacious, gives a little advance recognition of the scene which suddenly appears to him... So don't forget this. Another important point is what did he see when you say "field"? I think that a "field" could be a wasteland, a grassy plain, or a farm, so what could be your reasoning for it? I would also think that even when he's standing around and not moving, his state of mind must be active, and surely "somehow or other" isn't enough. The feelings of the person who experienced the situation are important, right? However, you're a Romanticist in that you expressed this story as "Eden."

Onkai Isshi Mimibukuro: 08. Telepati / 08. Telepathy

08. Telepati

İşte o an, koçum beni düşünüyormuş gibi gözüktü.

Bana gelince, o an çeşitli endişeler yüreğimde yığıntı oluşturuyordu, ve evin etrafını karışlıyordum.

<Koçun Minnettarlığı>

English:

A strange story that took place in my Coach's office.

An early morning in the middle of March. Coach was working all night long in the second floor of his office as usual. None of the office staff were there that day, so he was dealing with his manuscripts alone, but suddenly there was a sound like a bang from the entrance on the first floor.
"Who came in?"
Thinking one of the staff had come, Coach didn't mind too much and continued working as he was, but even after waiting a while, nobody came upstairs... Coach was worried and timidly descended the staircase, but as he looked around there was no sign of any person. The entrance was still locked... As he was wracking his brain he looked downward, and there was a single pair of slippers pointing toward the outside. In that moment, it seems that my coach inquired about me...
"I wonder if they're pointing to Isshi...? Might there be something he wants to say to me...?" he thought.

As for myself, various worries were piling up in my heart at that time, and I was moping around at home. The first thing to come to my mind was my Coach's face. However, I knew he was busy in the last stages of his work and controlled my urge to mail or call him. Perhaps my soul was seeking Coach's advice, and maybe flew out to him?

If that's the case, I want to say this.
"I interrupted you..."

<Coach's Gratitude>
My side of this story is compiling "99 Ghost Stories, Volume One." Check it out, read it and please, speak your mind.

But did Isshi come? That point isn't written. Because the mystery is the leading role. If, at that time, I had gone down to the entrance immediately when I heard the noise, would I have seen your retreating form? Matching with the previous story, it seems like you're a guy who wanders around here and there to loiter when you're sleeping. So come on now and visit me. Nevertheless, you seem magnificently delighted to write without embarrassment like this, and I think there's meaning in that. I guess I'm a fortunate person to be yearned for in this way... Thank you, Isshi.

Onkai Isshi Mimibukuro: 07. Dolaylı Doppleganger / 07. Indirect Doppleganger

07. Dolaylı Doppleganger*

Benim kendi Isshi Mimibukuro meslektaşımın bir deneyimi.

Asaya Loft'taki son yılın sonundaki etkinlikten sonra olmuştu. O, Yamanote Line'in ilk kalkışındaki arabalardan birinin içindeydi.

<Koç'un Övgüsü>

English:

An experience from my own Isshi Mimibukuro colleague.

This happened the day after the event in Asagaya Loft at the end of last year. He was inside one of the cars on the first departure of the Yamanote Line. Whether it was normal fatigue, or a sense of calm from welcoming the new year, before he knew it he had dozed off. When he suddenly opened his eyes, there was a familiar man sitting in the seat across from him...

Long boots, black skinny pants. Long black hair, black sunglasses. And on his middle finger, a Diamante armour ring. Yes, it seemed to be me, who he had seen at the event the day before... Just one thing was different, the jacket he was wearing was red.

Although he thought it was suspicious, that hairstyle resembled mine too much, and many times he was about to call out but hesitated. Then "I" got out of the train at Takadanobaba Station.

When I heard the story from him later on, he made sure many times, but the real "me" was at home in bed at that time, and I hadn't set foot in Takadanobaba in many years... Eventually we laughed at the story, but along with the clothes and physical appearance, the person resembled me so much that even the ring was basically the same. It was likely that he'd encountered someone who knew about me, however much he knew...

Although I felt a chill, I knew in my heart that it was a good thing I hadn't observed him myself...

<Coach's Praise>
A red jacket? Was he not a musician but a... magician? When I encountered this story, I was always wracking my brain a little. You stipulated "doppelganger" in the title, but to say it plainly you could use another word, "Ikiryou." Whether it was the eyewitness who said it, or the writer who decided it, I often see both the German word and the Japanese word in ghost stories. Is this the same thing called by two different names? Or are they different with mixed truths, so that nobody knows how to distinguish between them? These words are terribly unclear how to be used in text. By the way, Isshi, isn't the "Indirect" of this title a little bit peculiar?

Onkai Isshi Mimibukuro: 06. "Merhaba..." / 06. "Hello..."

06. "Merhaba..."

Riiiiiing, riiiing, riiiing. Click.
Telefonun ahizesi kaldırıldığında bir ses vardı ve bir süre sonra ses tamamen kesildi. Sonra kız, başka bir kızın mırıltılı sesini işitti;
"Merhaba...?"
"Merhaba?

<Koç'un Aydınlatması>

English:

A story I heard from a female fan.
One day, a girl who worked part time at a certain restaurant felt in poor health as soon as she woke up, and reluctantly called her store to request the day off. Riiiing, riiiing, riiiing. Click.
There was a sound of the phone being picked up, and for a while no sound at all, then she heard a girl's voice mumble "Hello...?"
"Hello? Um, excuse me... I'm very sorry for the trouble, but I woke up with a fever, so might I be excused for today please?"
............
There was no reply......
"Hello?Can you hear me? I'm really sorry..."
When she said that again, clunk. The telephone was hung up on the other side.

She called back many times after that, but when she eventually got through, thirty minutes had passed since the first time she called.
"Hello, I mentioned it just a while ago, but may I be excused today?"
"What's the matter? A while ago?? But I just got here? Who answered the phone?"
As he mentioned it, she didn't recognize the voice of the girl who answered the phone at first...
"Eh, well, a while ago someone answered and just said Hello..."
"Are you sure it wasn't the wrong number? Anyway it's okay, I understand. Be careful, okay?"
"That's right, it must've been the wrong number..."
She thought that, but when she checked the history of sent calls, it only displayed her workplace's number before switching over to yesterday's records.

To this day she doesn't know whose voice that was, and she's still working there now...

<Coach's Illumination>
Comparatively speaking, Isshi. Writing out the sound of a phone call gives it your own essence, but since you put the call sound and the strange female voice all in one set of brackets, we're cut off from the fact that the sound is a sound and the voice is a voice. It's often said that "Strangeness" is the leading role in a ghost story. In this case, you shouldn't be covering over that voice, right?

Onkai Isshi Mimibukuro: 05. "Şimdi!!" / 05. "Now!!"

<Koç'un İğnelemesi>

English:

A family story.

A family of five, both parents and three sisters who were very close, set out for Izu. The stopover point was a traditional inn that was famous in their hometown.

One room was assigned to the parents, and the three sisters all shared a room. For the first time in a while, the family could enjoy walking around, using the hot springs, and eating in privacy. By nightfall they were pleasantly chatting in the parents' room, and time passed in the blink of an eye. The parents said it was time for bed so they wouldn't be exhausted in the daytime, so the sisters returned to their own room, but they still hadn't chatted enough. That being the case, they all continued talking as usual while drinking sake.

They even forgot time was passing, and without anyone noticing, it had turned 2 o'clock in the late night. Since it would be a trying morning as it was, one of the sisters suggested they should go to bed already, and turned out the light. Three of them immediately laid down in bed, but after some more time had passed, the three sisters simultaneously flipped up their futon cover.

The eldest girl said, "Just now, I had sleep paralysis!!"
The middle girl said, "Just now, that screen opened and shut by itself!!"
The youngest girl said, "Just now, I heard a man's voice right at my ear!!"

The sisters each had different reasons for waking up, but there was one thing in common with all of them. Just before they all woke up, someone had straddled their futon...

Excited by this first experience, the three sisters talked all night long until morning came again.

<Coach's Pointer>
You noticed at the fifth story that you need titles, didn't you, Isshi. By the way, when you're collecting stories, or should I say writing a scary story from someone else's experience, there's something you mustn't forget. That's the "point of view." If you get a story that involves several people, who do you hear it from? I'd like for you to clarify that. Also, it's painful that you made the greatest part, the experience that "someone straddled their futons" into an after note. It's even more painful that all of them could've fully recovered from this, it just doesn't have "Isshi-ness."

Onkai Isshi Mimibukuro: 04. (İsimsiz) / 04. (Untitled)

 04. (Untitled)

"Ah, ehmm, ş-şey, şu an temizlikte, üzgünüm. " dedi zayıf, kaçamak bir cevap vererek.

Şans eseri, içimde bir sezgi pırıltısı belirdi. Birden bire cevabı yapıştırmıştım. "Yakında çıkarlar mı?" dedim ama sonra "Eh! Nereden biliyorsun?

<Koç'un İsteği>

Yoksa o mu!?

English:

A story of my neighborhood convenience store.
At that convenience store, there's only one day when they don't allow use of the toilet.

I often go shopping when I'm awake at 4 AM in the night, but at that time the "toilet cleaning" plate is always hanging... However, although it seems like it's being cleaned, the light is never on; it's pitch black and showing no sign of a person being inside.

I thought it was suspicious, so I tried asking the clerk at the register. "Why can't we use the toilet at this time?"
Then the clerk was surprised and took a moment to gather herself. "Ah, err, w-well, it's being cleaned, I'm sorry," she said, giving a poor evasive response.

By some chance, this made my intuition flash. I tried lightly retorting by saying something like "Might they be out soon?" but then I was asked "Eh! How do you know? Have you looked?"
Still... on the condition that I absolutely wouldn't reveal the store name, that clerk told me the truth of the situation.

She said that around that time, when the door is opened, the face reflected in the mirror near the washbasin shows a clearly different expression than her own face... once it was laughing, once it was crying, and sometimes, when she looks into the mirror, the clerk can see her back reflected there...

Next time I too want to take a chance, and try standing in front of that mirror.

<Coach's Request>
That's an unusual time for cleaning the toilet in a convenience store. Furthermore, Isshi, you have keen powers of observation to notice the light in the small window when the "cleaning" plate is hanging on the door.

I would think that your intuition flashed when you "thought it was suspicious" but your delighted face when your intuition hits is coming to my mind...

But since you didn't creep in and stand in front of the mirror, were you told by the clerk "That guest is dangerous"? A battle in a convenience store that's open at 4 in the morning... I would've liked to see that. Incidentally, if it's a local convenience store, is it that one? Or is it that one?!

Onkai Isshi Mimibukuro: 03. (İsimsiz) / 03. (Untitled)

<Koç'un Kafasını Karıştıran Şey>

English:

This is an incident from a certain band's live.

During a violent tune, the tension of the spectators had reached its climax. A girl who was headbanging, violently swinging her head, knocked her head against someone else's with all her force and fainted. Her head cracked open and a large amount of blood was spilling out. In response to that terrible spectacle, some of the nearby guests vomited, some ran away, and some even swooned. The live was interrupted so that the staff could quickly call an ambulance, but since the girl's eyes were rolled back, all that could be seen was a sea of blood. Everyone thought there might be no way to help...

Nevertheless, after around ten minutes, the girl suddenly regained her natural strength, and what's more, she started taking off the clothes she was wearing where she was. The flustered staff hurried to cover her up with towels and handcloths, but since the stream of blood continued to overflow and her eyes weren't fully open, it seemed like she wasn't fully conscious. When the girl had shaken free from all the hands around her and taken everything off, she collapsed again.

The ambulance finally arrived on the scene, and as things were it was certain that she'd be headed for the intensive care unit. But when the staff, who had seen that strange behaviour before their own eyes, explained the facts of the situation to the doctor, it seemed that... when humans are confronted with death they do such things because of instinctual reasons.

I don't know what happened to that girl after all of that, but I can only pray that she was okay...

<Coach's Perplexity>
...Hey Isshi, this is strange... isn't it? This incident... whether or not any part of it still remains... Ahh, speaking of strangeness I think this is a strange tale, but if pushed I'd have to say that it also seems like a tale of human mystery, doesn't it?

Well, the climax of your story is "Her eyes weren't fully open" but it seems to me like you come to this extremely important point too soon. Also, "cracked open" is imperfect as an explanation. We don't really know what kind of state she was in. I think you could at least use an expression such as "cut" or "split." Because the guests around her probably weren't wearing iron helmets right?

Incidentally, you didn't fill out the details of the ending. It doesn't seem very Isshi-like.
